You’ve probably heard that actions have consequences.
But, so does inaction.
The worst advise I ever listened to was to set my expectations low, so that I could never be disappointed.
All that ever leads to is disappointment.
If there is no expectation, what’s the point in participating?
Growth doesn’t come from winning or losing, it comes from finishing.
Setbacks happen.
Bad days and upsets beat you down.
But finishing, even when there is no audience, is what gets you through it.
Whether you work with others or on your own, success has many fathers.
What that means is that once you find success, others will claim credit.
Others, who often don’t have skin in the game, will give you advice.
And worse, those who aren’t as invested in the work will put in less time but claim more spotlight, blaming you when things go wrong.
It isn’t right.
It isn’t fair.
That’s life.
Don’t pack a bag for their guilt trips.
Learning to say no and cutting the loss of excess baggage is going to free up a lot of your energy.
Art is a rough business.
It takes tough people to do it.
