Most people like the notion of being the “idea man”.
The mind behind the curtain, “genius” on the desk plate.
The problem is… with that usually comes the illusion of stardom that comes from being the front man in a notorious rock band.
Yes, that has happened before.
…who Kool-Aid guy? That sounds like a good trip.
The cult of self-confidence can be delusional.
The role of emperor liters the history books.
It doesn’t so much grace the headlines of current news articles or successful startups.
Having an idea and being the one to bring it to life doesn’t always go hand in hand.
Trenching in isn’t a limelight role…until it works.
Putting in the countless hours to create anything is done in the darkness of the publics could shoulder.
Having the idea isn’t enough to make you relevant.
*Though it is enough to pout about at any moment, in any bar.
Pointing at something on the page and delegating the hard work doesn’t make you an artist.
It doesn’t make you an entrepreneur.
It makes you a dreamer.
There’s nothing wrong with that.
As long as you know what your role is.
It means you’re not necessary to the life of the project.
And that project, whatever it is, can and will live or die without your input.
Be the mechanic.
Be the design engineer.
Be invaluable to your own work.
Don’t wait for a winning lottery ticket to bring your ideas to life.
Seeds of change come in small packages.
Be self-aware.
Be self-assured.
Be the gambler that bets on themselves.
…Be the one that does the work.
