In Good Company…with losers

In sports, if you win 3 titles in the span of four years, you are a more than a dynasty…you are a legend.

But when you lose four championships in a row …it’s called a curse.

When you’re not winning, you can name all the greats, the idols, the role models…that never got the title.
You can find them in any industry, in every era. The ones that put the work in but, through poor timing or even bad luck, never got to bring it home.

That all changes when you get a win.
Immediately, the narrative changes from can they win…to will they repeat? Can they do it again…and again?

Talent doesn’t win out.
Trash talk and marketing does.

If you have the opportunity to win…anything…
it’s not luck that got you there.

Everyone loves an underdog story…
unless you’re the one favored to win.
Work doesn’t always win out.
But for the integrity of the art in which you hone your craft…I hope it stands on its own merit.

I’ll take being good over lucky any day.
And if that means I don’t have a trophy cabinet…
At least I’m in good company.
