How’s that New Year’s Resolution? How’s that dream comin’?
It’s hard to climb a mountain without watching where your feet go. Those small steps matter.
When I used to run marathon’s, I hated the idea of running a marathon. I couldn’t quite wrap my mind around it, and focusing on the length was like staring at a clock. It just took forever. So, I broke it down into single miles. One more mile, then another.
One at a time, just over 26 times.
There are projects that are so far back on my burner, that it just makes me mad to think about them. Not because they are easy, but because if I had just done a little bit… just a little, every day, they would have been done years ago.
That daily routine makes such a big difference for being such a simple thing.
All I try to do now, is just a little bit, every day.
One page of a comic book. One thousand words of script. It doesn’t have to all happen at once. In fact, if you want it to matter, it shouldn’t.
Start small with something you can maintain. Don’t bite off more than you can chew, because then you’ll fall off the wagon day 2 and be so frustrated you won’t want to try again.
You can do this. We can do this.
One less tv episode. One less time opening the social media apps. One small step and you’ve managed to find the time you thought you didn’t have to do something you’ve always dreamed about.
If it doesn’t matter enough for you to do it… then how can you expect anyone else to care once you’ve finished it?
Don’t zone out. Focus in.
