Bring the RAIN

When you’re trying to keep your nose above water, it doesn’t matter if it is raining.

The perk of that is that you never have to pack an umbrella.

Lately, I’ve been contemplating why there are so many stories of machines taking over the world.  There are movies about it.  Countless books.  Everyone seems to know the story, and nobody really fights the idea that, yes, robots are taking over.

Well, get on with it already.

I’m surrounded by machines, and can’t for the life of me get any one of them to reliably work.

Or at the very least, to keep the same hours I do.

I’m not worried about them taking my job, I’m worried that I’ll have a rage black out at the fact the they aren’t working right and my brain will pop.

Well oiled machines went out of style with the steam engine.  Now we have the cheapest parts made by the cheapest labor in an area that doesn’t charge shipping and handling.

Quality isn’t a commodity in a consumer market.

If your creativity is a commodity, you need to find a way to keep up.

You can’t stay creative if you can’t survive.

The constant strains of creative hunger will break your will long before your bank forecloses on you.

One of the single most asked questions to writers is “where do you get your ideas?”

It seems like such a strange question.

Life.

Listening to other people talk.

Watching people go about their day.

Taking parts of your own and meshing them together in a kaleidoscope of dialogue.

Sometimes.  Most of the time, the real story can be gained by listening instead of talking.

But what do I know, I’m about to sit down with a screwdriver and a computer while another thunderhead rolls in.

Keep your head down, forward is that way.
