There are a lot of titles out there.
Buzzy. Important Sounding. Interview Getting. Titles.
Things like:
CEO
Founder
Leader
Titles are fine.
Sometimes they come with a pay bump. That’s cool.
Here’s the thing.
You can be a CEO of a company of just you.
And you can “Found” a rock on the ground.
What’s the point of leading if you don’t know what you’re doing or where you’re going?
Are you a cult leader?
Are you a jerk?
If all you want is for people to celebrate you and to know how important you are, you…are the problem.
Now, I’m not saying that you aren’t important. Or that you shouldn’t be celebrated.
I am saying, shut up and do the work.
Don’t tell me you’re releasing the next big thing, build that thing, get it done, then show me what you’ve got.
Over Hyped and Under Delivered doesn’t sound like a great nameplate to have in your office.
And if you’re ever too high up on your horse to clean the bathroom or get your hands dirty in your own organization, then no matter what group you’re a part of; is honestly better off without you.
Create the work you can’t sleep without making.
Don’t lose sleep over not getting enough credit.
The work speaks for itself.
That’s why they call it art.
