There’s always an epidemic.
Constant.
Unrelenting.
And we are all at risk.
This illness?
Complacency.
The problem?
People aren’t showing up for the showdown.
They know how to talk.
But not how to deliver.
No one ever promised any of us Easy Street.
It’s a lore.
Nothing more than a tagline.
Some people think others should always do their homework.
The way to fix that is to fill in their answers wrong.
All of them.
Talent and work ethic stands out through perseverance.
Not everyone can drive at the same time.
And if you’re shouting tirelessly from the back, you’re more likely to get everyone killed than actually contribute to the situation.
Is that you’re “leadership” skill?
Getting everyone killed?
Put up.
Or shut up.
Tow the line.
It’s not a cult.
It’s an opportunity.
Limitations caused by a fear of failure are self-imposed.
Losing isn’t the problem.
Fear of losing causing stagnation is the problem.
Not every leader rises to the occasion.
That is the account we are all held to.
Showing up no matter what.
We aren’t, any of us, undefeated.
But formidable…that’s a record I can aspire to.
Not every individual is worth their salt.
Salt…is where salary started.
‘Salarium,’ or salt as we know it, is the payment Romans received for their labors.
If you’re not worth your salt, you’re not worth your salary. And if you’re not worth your salary…the secret is out.
If you think ease and comfort come with the title of leadership…do is all a favor and stay at the bottom complaining.
If you think that mumbling and grumbling, causing constant distractions and taking attention away from the tasks at hand count as contributions to the goal…do us all a favor and quit.
It’s not an impossibility to win ‘a man down’, but it is a rarity.
Thinking that you’re the smartest person in the group and pouting that people don’t recognize your brilliance is a sure way to be singled out as a fool.
And when you run out of moves and start dragging the team down out of spite, proving that you have no accountability, then you’re also a coward.
How you pay that off is a lack of work.
Being salt-of-the-earth isn’t handed out.
You’re not promoted to the title.
You either do, or you don’t…day in and day out.
