I don’t know where I’m headed, and the landscape will no doubt look different than I expect it to by the time I get there, but damnit… I’m going to get there as fast as I can.
The phrase means to move recklessly fast, usually by horse.
It doesn’t matter what you do in life, people don’t stay stationary long.
We all seem to want more. Better. Bigger.
It’s the nature of the beast.
The problem is, “better” isn’t always better.
Sometimes the show isn’t always worth the price of admission.
And there’s always a cost.
One of the phrases I’m often quoted after I complain about a storyline is “buy the premise, buy the movie.”
I’m not entirely jaded. I enjoy things. I just want them to make sense within the context of the world that has been created.
Is that too much to ask?
I can only control the stories I’m involved in telling. And the stories I tell, be it by myself or in collaboration, are all stories I would like to see.
That doesn’t make it perfect, but it does make them entertaining… for me. And, hopefully, anyone else helping me bring them to life.
My argument is that most people don’t want to read a story about a rulebook. It’s a rulebook. If your story doesn’t make sense, a poster with a pretty face and a catchy title won’t make it better.
If you’re more worried about making a dollar than doing the work to finish your story, go work at a bank.
Your story can’t work at a bank. Only the bottom line matters there.
Either sign or don’t.
That’s a short rulebook.
